Political Causes
A political cause that contributed to the Civil War was state's rights. Many believed in state sovereignty but unfortunately it was nullified. The states as if they had no say in the government. They never agreed on slavery and the South was taxed without any consent. Though compromises were made that helped push back the war, it did not prevent the Civil War from happening.

Social Causes
One of the most common causes of the Civil War was sectionalism between the states. The South, North and West all began to grow apart due to their different opinions. Views on slavery also contributed to the war as well. The South supported slavery to support the plantation system and slave labor while the North did not. The great compromise helped with the issue fro a while but in the end did not prevent the war. Fuel was only added to the fire when Harriett Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin, displaying the cruilties of slavery to the North who was outraged.

Economic Causes
One of the many economic causes that led to the civil war was the two tarrifs law the U.S passed in order to help the Northern manufacturers, but the South disagreed with the taxes and started to rebel. Many leaders from around the U.S fought against one another, like Senator John C. Calhoun of South Carolina, Daniel Webster from Massachusetts, and President Andrew Jackson. Finally they settled the issue, but this only put off the war.

Connect To Self: I would have taken the North's side with banning slavery because slavery is wrong and no one deserves to be treated that way. No matter skin color, we are all created equal.
